Tenerife is the largest and most popular Canary Island for British holidaymakers. Although it’s part of Spain, the island along with the other six Canary Islands is situated in the Atlantic Ocean just off the west coast of Africa. The wonderful all-year-round sunshine makes it the ideal destination at any time but it is particularly perfect if you fancy escaping the UK’s colder and wetter months in search of some winter sun.

Let us take you through some key things you need to know and experience when on luxury holidays to Tenerife.

Essential Information

Language & currency

Spanish is the local language, with English widely spoken throughout the key resorts. The currency is euros so is readily available if exchanging before you travel.

Passport and Visas

UK citizens are only allowed to spend a maximum of 90 days in Tenerife in any period of 180 days without a visa. Your passport must be valid for more than six months.

Time Difference & Flight Time

There is no time difference between Tenerife and United Kingdom and the flight time is between 4 hours and 30 minutes and 5 hours and 30 minutes, so jetlag is never a worry!

Weather

Tenerife is the perfect destination for holidays all year round. The lowest average temperatures are in January and February when it is 22°C. The highest average temperature is in July, August and September when it is 28°C. The best time to go is May and June when it is hot without being unbearable.

Things to Do

Siam Park

There are lots to see and visit whilst on Tenerife holidays, one being Siam Park, Europe’s largest waterpark. This wonderful water kingdom is situated in the heart of Costa Adeje and has a vast array of attractions to keep everyone happy. Plus, the Thai-inspired theme adds a touch of magic to things. When it comes to the Tower of Power, only the brave need apply. You will get a dose of butterflies before plunging a 28-metre drop into a shark-filled aquarium! If you prefer a calmer ride, one of the world’s longest lazy rivers snakes around the park at a much more leisurely pace. The waterpark boasts 14 fantastic rides plus its own beach onsite.

San Cristóbal de la Laguna

If you are looking for a day trip then an excursion to Tenerife’s former capital, San Cristóbal de la Laguna is a must. This ancient city is a World Heritage site and is home to stunning architecture and religious buildings including the neoclassical cathedral, the convents Santa Catalina and Santa Clara and the Palaces of Nava and Salazar.

Whale and Dolphin Watching

Boat excursions are available from major resorts and one of the most popular is whale and dolphin watching cruises which depart from Puerto Colon. Once on board, you will be taken straight to discovering the wonderful world of whales and dolphins and see them swimming freely in their natural habitat around the coast.
