If you’re looking for things to do in Tenerife that go beyond simply sunbathing, there are plenty of options available from scuba diving and exploring natural parks to visiting unique museums and taking part in exciting activities. Here are our top things to do in Tenerife.

Siam Park

You cannot visit Tenerife and not go to Europe’s biggest waterpark, Siam Park. This amazing waterpark is situated in the heart of Costa Adeje and has a vast selection of attractions to keep everyone happy (14 fantastic rides plus its own beach onsite). The park’s main attraction is the jaw-dropping Tower of Power slide. This slide is definitely not for the faint-hearted, as it is a 28-metre almost vertical drop from top to the bottom. The park also has numerous restaurants and bars onsite.

Day trip to San Cristóbal de la Laguna

The majority of us Brits take our holidays in the south of the island, so find time and head north to the fabulous city of San Cristóbal de la Laguna. This ancient city is a UNESCO world heritage site, and here you will get to see streets that have retained the same layout since the 16th century, stunning architecture and religious buildings including the neoclassical cathedral, the convents Santa Catalina and Santa Clara and the Palaces of Nava and Salazar. The city is always bustling with life with musicians playing on the streets and a vast number of family-run restaurants and bars to choose from. It’s a totally different world in comparison to the south.

Teide National Park

Make sure you have packed a decent pair of walking shoes, trainers or boots because Teide National Park will not tolerate flip-flops or sandals. This iconic National Park has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2007 under the Natural Asset category. The park is situated right bang in the middle of Tenerife at an altitude of 6,500 feet above sea level, topped by Spain’s highest peak at just over 12000 feet. The landscape is breathtaking, even when approaching the park by car. You will also get to see some unique reptiles and birds, such as the Tenerife lizard, Canarian lizard and Kestrels for bird lovers. One of the best ways to see the park is by cable car. The journey takes roughly 10 minutes and climbs up 11500 feet. Once at the top you will be treated to some stunning views.

Deep-sea fishing

Why not spend a day catching your dinner? Hook up the bait and enjoy some deep sea fishing. Deep sea fishing is popular in Tenerife, especially in the south of the island. You will be able to find several marinas with a wide choice of specialised boats to enjoy this elite sport. All the boats are equipped with all of the rods, tackle and crew you need for a memorable fishing trip when on your Tenerife holidays.

Whale and dolphin watching

Boat excursions depart from more or less all of the major resort marinas and one of the most popular is whale and dolphin watching which departs from Puerto Colon. Once on board, you will get straight to discovering the wonderful world of whales and dolphins swimming freely in their natural habitat around the coast. Make sure you have your cameras at the ready to capture these remarkable creatures.

If there is only so much time you can spend on a beach, make sure you do not discount Tenerife as your next holiday destination as there is so much more to Tenerife than just its glorious beaches. Whether you’re looking for a romantic getaway or a family-friendly vacation, Tenerife has it all.
